One of the best bassists in Spain and one of the pioneers. He has been
a member of bands like Crac (not Crack, these Crac released no albums), Máquina,
Música Urbana and even played with
Alameda lately.
He likes to fusion rock and flamenco. (Diego Herrera)
Carles Benavent was born in Barcelona in 1954. He is a self-learning
bassist. He has been a fan of Jaco Pastorius since his youth.
He was one of the founders of the band
Música Urbana recording two LPs
with them. He usually plays bass for Paco de Lucia (in 1978 he already
played in the record "Paco de Lucía interpreta a Manuel de Falla"),
and hundreds of other musicians, specially in the flamenco ambiences,
creating a new way of playing bass "flamenco-style". He has
collaborated with musicians like Chick Corea (in the record
"Touchstone", 1982) or Miles Davis. In 1993 he was a member of the
project Jazzpaña together with Al diMeola, Peter Erskine, Jorge Pardo Cañizares, Ramón El Portugués, etc. In 1995 he suffered an accident,
with an important injury in the left arm. Fortunately, we was able to play
again and recorded the CD "Fénix" after some years of absence. His
records have been released by "Nuevos Medios" and "Dos de Copas"
and "Colors" are signed together with Joan Albert Amargos, the
keyboardist of Música Urbana.
Benavent is considered as one of the best bassist in the world. (José Manuel Iñesta)
