Galleon is a Swedish group that is related neither to Flower Kings nor the
transcendent triad Landberk-Anglagard-Anekdoten. Theirs is a classic
symphonic rock, mainly influenced by neo-prog bands and Genesis circa
"Wind and Wuthering". Though with a few modern sound, very clear and clean,
typical of late 90's, and a vocalist who resembles me to that of Everon.
The most prominent of this album is some symphonic keyboard atmospheres
capable of creating very cold and distant landscapes, sometimes a bit
spatial, maybe near to Eloy. Good proof of it is the track "Art Gallery".
This is not a great track, but the part of the keyboard solo, reminds me
very much to first 80's Eloy.
The suite "The Wanderer" sound like IQ's neoprogressive, very symphonic with
good moments. "Staborn" is more boring. Nevertheless, I like more
a track like "Operating Manual". Nothing else than a symphonic rock
slightly innovative, with good influences of Genesis and neo-prog bands, but
the nice mellotron melodies, and the symphonic and current spatial
atmospheres give it a personal enough touch to this track. Likewise,
the long symphony "House of Plenty" is not bad at all.
The album is considered to be a classic neo-prog one, although I think this
recording, though good, doesn't stand out specially. Fans who don't need to
listen innovative prog, will enjoy Galleon.
